Dopo l'ottimo Shades Of Grey, Scott Ferrell e Erin Welton imbastiscono un lavoro dal fascino assoluto: Ablaze, l'album della maturità, della consacrazione, un album di purissimo dream pop/shoegazer, nel quale il gruppo dimostra di avere le idee ben chiare.
Il sound cristallino, la chitarra di Scott Ferrell sempre o quasi sugli scudi, la voce eterea di Erin Welton, le melodie avvincenti e le linee ritmiche precise e cadenzate fanno di Ablaze un disco sobrio e frizzante.
L'album si può dividere in tre parti. La prima parte è un tripudio di sonorità e di atmosfere, nella migliore tradizione dream pop/shoegazer.
Endlessly è pirotecnica, la chitarra di Scott è scintillante, sembra sprizzare dagli altoparlanti e la voce di Erin dipinge atmosfere oniriche memori della migliore Elizabeth Fraser.
Seguono Fluttermoth, dal sound fresco e brillante e Into The Stream, che sembra preparare il terreno per la seconda parte, nella quale le composizioni sono avvolte da un'aura di malinconia. Tra gli episodi sono da ricordare soprattutto Eternal Light e The Moon Nocturnal.
La terza parte è costituita da episodi più leggeri, come A Rhythm That Writhes, Imaginary Grey, l'acustica Sea Of Honesty e Angelspeak, caratterizzata da una cascata di note chitarristiche sospese.
Ablaze è uno stupendo tuffo nel brith pop/college rock anni '80 e '90 rimesso a nuovo dai migliori interpreti del dream pop/shoegazer.

After the excellent Shades Of Grey, Scott Ferrell and Erin Welton assemble a job of the absolute fascination: Ablaze, the album of the maturity, of the consecration, an album of pure dream pop/shoegazer, in which the group proves to have clear ideas.
The crystalline sound, the guitar of Scott Ferrell always or almost always on the shields, the ethereal voice of Erin Welton, the compelling melodies and the rhythmic lines, precise and rhythmical, make Ablaze a disk sober and lively.
The album is divided into three parts. The first part is a riot of sounds and atmospheres, in the best tradition dream pop/shoegazer.
Endlessly is pyrotechnic, the guitar of Scott is shining, seems to shoot out of the speakers and the voice of Erin paints dreamlike atmospheres, mindful of the best Elizabeth Fraser.
Follow Fluttermoth, with a fresh and bright sound and Into The Stream, which seems to prepare the ground for the second part, in which the compositions are surrounded by an aura of melancholy. Among the episodes are to be remembered especially Eternal Light and The Moon Nocturnal.
The third part consists of lighter episodes, as Imaginary Grey, the acoustic Sea Of Honesty and Angelspeak, characterized by a cascade of suspended notes from the Scott's guitar.
Ablaze is a wonderful dip in the brit pop/college rock of the 80s and of the 90s modernized by the best actual interpreters of dream pop/shoegazer.
